What is a convertible vent on a microwave?

When it comes to selecting a microwave for your kitchen take in consideration of your kitchen layout, and cooking habits, one important feature to consider is the venting system.  Most microwaves offer venting options for you to choose from at the time of installation.

  1. External Venting  

    1. An external venting system is a microwave vents the fumes to the outside of your home through a duct system.  This is the optimal solution if you want to completely remove cooking odors and steam from your kitchen and by default, the fan system in most microwaves are configured for interior or recirculating venting or exhaust.

On most microwaves, they offer the flexibility of flipping the fan component in the back of the microwave from external venting or recirculating vent system.  If the option is available on the microwave unit that you have selected, and depending on the kitchen setup or layout, choosing the right venting solution will help in eliminate odors and help to improve air quality in your kitchen. 
      1. External venting: Venting the air in the kitchen to the outside to through a duct system.
      2. Recirculating venting: The air in the kitchen is recirculated internally or back into your kitchen.  This is a good option if your kitchen has no form of outside exhaust available
